Youth - Junior and Senior High

The Youth Group meets every Sunday at 10:30 AM. In this group, the Junior and Senior High classes review a variety of material, through lively discussions and educational games.  Students in these grades are also involved in activities outside of Sunday morning lessons throughout the year.

Junior and Senior High

St. Mary’s youth discuss hot topics relating to 21st century teens.  Please speak with the youth ministry leader, David T. May, for more information on how you can be a part of the St. Mary’s Youth Group.

During the 2008-2009 year, t
he students in the Jr. and Sr. High class:

  • Concentrated on several different areas of bible and worship study. Topics in this study included: Understanding the layout of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. How the Bible is laid out and how we need to interpret the Bible as the word of God was delivered through the pens of the authors for whom the books are named.
  • Spent some time studying the architecture of St. Mary's (the "new" church and the "old " church) studying their foundational crucifix layouts. Students also studied all of the architectural designs within the church structures which are directly related to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost / or the Trinity.

Junior and Senior Students are always encouraged to bring real life questions to the table each week. Here they discuss possible living solutions to questions such as "How do I tell my friend that I feel they are doing wrong in the eyes of God?" or  “How can I live a Christian life when so many around me do not lead a lifestyle that honors Jesus Christ?” Tough questions for tough times!

The Junior and Senior High class is given opportunities to help decide how our Church school Mite Box donations might be best used to help some other parts of the world. IN 2009, two goats were obtained for a family in a third world country through the Heifer International project.

The Junior and Senior High class also periodically takes the lead in occasional Youth Sunday celebrations. During the final Youth Sunday mass in 2009 on June 14th, the Junior and Senior High class took on the Readings and Psalm as well as filling the roles of Greeters and Ushers. A very special musical presentation was also given by the students in the class during the Offertory.

In past years, it is not uncommon for previous youth group members to remain a vital component of this class once they have graduated. For example, Ms. Mary Cherubini has helped lead the youth group class, while attending college. She has brought new perspectives, serves as a positive role model for the other students, and is a tremendous support to this group as a leader and a friend.

“On a personal note I can't tell you how fulfilling it is to work with such a great group of young people. Their light illuminates a path that many believe is dimly lit. I am pleasantly reminded each week, that there is hope with these young people. God continues to provide hope and light for all the world through the young people here at St. Mary's and all over the world.”

David Thomas May, Youth Ministry Group Director

Please note: In 2009, St. Mary’s created a Facebook page which facilitates communication between many parishioners and in large part, members of the Youth Group Ministry. In addition, on a larger scale, the Diocese of New Jersey also maintains a Facebook page entitled the Diocese Youth Group which encourages youth across the region to socialize with each other and take part in larger mission related activities. Please feel free to visit us on Facebook.
